Root Canal therapy

A root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged, fractured or infected tooth.

The procedure involves:

  • Removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp)
  • Cleaning the tooth
  • Irrigating the tooth
  • Disinfecting the tooth
  • Fill and seal the tooth

  • Common causes affecting the tooth pulp are a cracked / fractured tooth, deep cavity (decay), trauma or repeated treatment to the tooth. While some mistakenly think of lit as an unusually painful treatment, in most cases the procedure is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling

Do root canals hurt ?

The tooth is painful before the root canal therapy is initiated. Once proper anesthesia is achieved, the root canal therapy begins the healing process and elimination of pain. Each case is different based on the amount of infection present.
